Back in February, one of our lovely patients, Chilli the Red Cattle Dog, had an unfortunate run-in with a goanna, sustaining significant injuries to her ear and leg, including an arterial bleed. This was a serious, time-critical situation requiring immediate attention.

Chilli’s outcome was greatly influenced by her owners’ quick thinking. Robert contacted us straight away, providing their details, an estimated time of arrival, and a clear description of what had happened, along with Chilli’s condition. While making their way to the clinic, they applied firm pressure to the wound using a shirt — simple first aid, but critically important in managing active bleeding.

Thanks to this clear and timely communication, our team was prepared and ready upon Chilli’s arrival. We were able to promptly assess her, stabilise her condition, and proceed to surgery without delay.

Chilli underwent surgery and, in an excellent outcome, was able to return home the very same day. Over the following weeks, she came back for regular bandage changes and rechecks, showing steady improvement at each visit. Within just 2–3 weeks, she was given the all clear and had returned to her normal routine.
